What is race?

When people refer to race or racial differences, they usually mean skin colour, country of origin, religion, ethnic background, and cultural practices.

These things together refer to a person’s ethnicity, not a person’s “race”.

Race is a made-up concept and is not based on scientific fact. However we continue to use the word “race” because it is well understood as a term to refer to a person’s skin colour, ethnic background and cultural practices.
